This October, the pair are joining forces for a limited-edition art and T-shirt collaboration, with 100% of the proceeds going to hospitality charity StreetSmart, supporting its work with people experiencing extreme food poverty in London this autumn and winter.
And, because this is SlowBurn, there’s a dinner involved too.
On Thursday 15th October, SlowBurn will host a special evening to celebrate the collaboration, bringing together good food, art and a room full of people who like doing things a little differently. Guests will also receive one of Dave’s limited-edition A5 prints in return for bringing a tin of food on the night, with donations going to a local food bank in E17.
If you haven’t been to SlowBurn before, this is a particularly good excuse to go. Hidden inside Blackhorse Lane Ateliers’ working denim factory, it’s the kind of place that feels very Walthamstow: industrial, creative, independent and completely unbothered by convention. You eat surrounded by sewing machines, rolls of denim and the machinery of the factory floor, while chef and founder Chavdar Todorov’s plant-forward food does the talking.
Now add Real Hackney Dave to the mix. Dave’s work has become instantly recognisable across London – bold, witty, slightly irreverent and often built around found images, typography and the visual language of advertising. For this collaboration, he has created a vintage-inspired map of Walthamstow overlaid with the words ‘SLOWBURN IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA’ in metallic gold leaf. There are just 10 signed and numbered A3 prints, priced at £95 each, with every penny going to StreetSmart.
And then there are the T-shirts. In another first for Dave, just 100 limited-edition SlowBurn x Real Hackney Dave tees will be made, in black or white, featuring the rather brilliant ‘LOVE SLOW BURN BRIGHT’ slogan in pink and red. They’re £50, with all profits donated to StreetSmart, and can be pre-ordered through SlowBurn.
But for us, the dinner is the bit that really brings the whole thing together. Food, art, a brilliant East London setting and the chance to support a charity doing important work.
