Bringing the flavours of south-east Asia and the Pacific Rim to the streets of East London, YUU Kitchen is a quirky and relaxed spot located on Commercial Street, Spitalfields. You’ll find some outdoor seating for sunny days and a welcoming, colourful comic-book style interior with an open kitchen.
We decided to tuck into YUU’s new lunchtime special menu of five plates for only £21.50, available Monday to Thursday. The menu includes edamame and prawn crackers, a choice of Manga bao buns and one side dish, served with steamed rice. We loved the Aubergine Bao with Asian spices, Goma and Bubuarare, and the Crispy Tofu with Kimchi, Kimchi Mayo and sesame.
For sides, we recommend the flavourful Chicken Karaage with banana catsup, Sriracha Hiroshi and spring onion or the Sweet Sticky Eggplant, wok-fried with a white miso-glaze and garnished with crunchy shallots and sesame seeds. There’s a good selection of Asian beers, sakes and spirits plus a global wine list. We quite liked the idea of some sake with our lunchtime feast and our knowledgable waiter recommended the Bijofu Rei, a beautiful light and elegant sake, served chilled. All round, a satisfying and delicious lunch without breaking the bank.
If you can’t make lunch during the week, then YUU Kitchen also offers a Saturday brunch menu for £22.50 – plus, you can pimp it up with 90 minutes of bottomless bubbles, beer or cocktails for £47.50. Sounds like a plan!
