Gloria Trattoria – Italian Restaurant in Shoreditch

Gloria – a 70s Capri-style, all-day-long trattoria in Shoreditch, East London is more than a restaurant

A beloved Shoreditch mainstay with homey Italian cooking, Gloria dishes up plenty of charm and atmosphere. It’s a roaring success and an experience you’ll want to savour again and again—offering large portions that demand to be shared and fresh, uncomplicated Italian food that delights the palate and fills the belly.

Gloria’s menu changes each month, keeping things exciting with its focus on seasonal produce. This summer’s menu nails it again with classic pasta and pizza dishes alongside some delightful new twists. We kicked things off with the creamy and fresh Burrata e Figgitelli, a 250g juicy burrata from Puglia, filled with sun-dried tomato and almond pesto on a bed of flavourful pan-fried Friggitelli. The Honey, I Truffled the Crocchetta is off the scale—a gooey cheese and pepper croquette filled with Provola cheese, generously topped with fresh truffle and truffle honey

For something bold, we shared the Tartare Con Puttanesca Chimichurri, a texturally and flavour-rich beef tartare, with capers, mustard, pickled cucumber, and Greek yoghurt, topped with a fresh Chimichurri sauce made with anchovies, Taggiasche olives, and sun-dried tomatoes.

Cacio e Pepe Con Scampi

Truffle enthusiasts will find it hard to pass up Gloria’s popular Spaghetti al Tartufo, but for the sake of review, we settled on the Cacio e Pepe Con Scampi. Balancing rich and delicate flavours, this homemade linguine was also a winner—with an indulgent creamy cheese and pepper sauce served with a veritable school of plump langoustines, a drizzle of bisque, and topped with pistachio.

A bottle of light and fresh rosé, the Bardolino Chiaretto, from the shores of Lake Garda, was an excellent choice, complementing each course perfectly.

For our Secondi, main dish, we opted for something lighter—the Merluzzo Con Zucchine, a perfectly pan-fried cod fillet on a bed of sautéed courgette, with a light lemony beurre blanc and finished with fresh rocket.

Despite feeling thoroughly satisfied, we couldn’t resist the Dolci, sharing The Incomparable Lemon Pie—a magnificent yet light dessert to conclude our Italian feast.
