Once perceived to be the home of incomplete jigsaws, chipped crockery and fusty clothes, charity and second-hand shops are having something of a renaissance. In a bid to combat the catastrophic effect that fast fashion is having on the environment, scores of bloggers, Instagrammers and fashion-forward folk are shunning the high street in favour of Not Buying New. This may involve restyling the clothes already spilling out of our wardrobes and floordrobes, sharing outfits with friends, or only buying pre-loved clothing. Depop is one of fashion’s worst-kept secrets for finding gems that you missed out on when they first hit the shops as well as unique, rare pieces. Now, Depop, one of our favourite, bookmarked websites, is available to visit IRL. Bringing the UK’s Depop community together, they are presenting Depop Market London, a three-day pop-up market at Hackney’s Bohemia Place Markets. It’s a great way to get to know, in person, the sellers you’d usually see as usernames online before heading home with a bag of unique, sustainable clothing.
