From the outside, Chat Noir keeps its secrets well. The unassuming façade gives little away, but that’s all part of the allure. Slip past the red rope, through a hidden doorway and behind the curtain, and suddenly London disappears. In its place? A seductive, candlelit world that feels lifted straight from 1890s Paris.
A warm “Bonjour Mademoiselle” sets the tone as you’re guided inside, anticipation building with every step down the dimly lit corridor. Then it opens up: crimson velvet booths, flickering candlelight, glittering chandeliers, and a buzz of conversation that feels like you’ve stumbled into a bohemian salon at the height of its decadence. It’s immersive, glamorous, and effortlessly transportive. A chilled glass of champagne in hand only heightens the effect.

Our table on the upper balcony offered the perfect vantage point, overlooking the entire room as the night unfolded below. At centre stage, a pianist and live quartet filled the space with rich, vibrant sound, setting a lively and sophisticated tone for the evening. Our Parisian waitress, Alicia, guided us through the menu, and we settled on a Picpoul de Pinet from the extensive Vins de la Cave list – very much in keeping with the setting.
To start, a charcuterie board arrived with a selection of French cheeses and a smooth pâté maison. A simple, indulgent opener that paired perfectly with the wine and atmosphere of the evening.

As the night unfolded, host Rodolphe Sails brought infectious energy to the room, effortlessly steering the experience with charm and charisma. Backed by the talented Les Enfants Vagabondes, the entertainment flowed seamlessly alongside the dining, keeping the room lively and engaging.

Dinner itself was a standout. The coq au vin served with with a silky red wine jus, was everything you’d hope for – tender, deeply flavoured. Add to that a buttery fondant potato and crisp pancetta lardons, and it quickly became a highlight of the evening. It’s often said that in venues like this the food can play second fiddle, but not here – the kitchen more than holds its own. Dessert, a bright and zesty tarte au citron, was the perfect finale: light and refreshing.

The cabaret element brings a playful, eclectic energy to the night, with a mix of performances that keep the atmosphere lively and unpredictable. There are moments of real flair and talent throughout, culminating in a high-energy can-can finale that lifts the entire room and leaves the audience on a high.
Ultimately, Chat Noir is about escapism. It’s a place to dress up, lean into the glamour, and lose yourself for a few hours in a world that feels far removed from everyday London life. With its stunning setting, live music, and exceptional food, it delivers a memorable evening that’s as much about the experience as it is the details.
