5* Sani Beach Resort, Greece
By Michelle Goulding
One cold, dark and drizzly October morning, while dreaming of donning my tennis whites and strutting onto Centre Court to the adulation of the British crowd, I boarded the plane heading to Sani Resort in Greece for a week of tennis coaching week hosted by ActiveAway – an inspiring entrepreneurial company (as seen on Dragons Den).
The tennis centre consisted of 6 floodlit clay courts and was perfect for the ActiveAway team to carry out their coaching on people like me (with all the gear and no idea), as well as more proficient tennis players. Tennis aside, the resort was stunning – set among 1000 acres of land with 5 different styles of hotels (from child-friendly to adult-only), it even boasts its’ own marina with luxury yachts on site – a great place to people watch with a glass of wine in hand. It’s impossible to go hungry here as there are 24 different restaurants to choose from as part of the full-board “dine around” programme. Feeling slightly guilty after consuming all those calories, I checked out the extensive activity programme – from yoga on the hill, aqua aerobics, zumba, group runs and leisurely forest walks around the resort. I was exhausted after reading about it all, so I retreated to the white sandy beach before heading to the spa for some hedonistic relaxation.
An evening entertainment programme ran in the outdoor theatre, however, the highlight of the week is the renowned white party at the resort’s beach bar, where you can watch the sunset over the horizon and dance the night away.
My holiday concluded with a complimentary sunset cruise…. as the sun drew down, the realisation sunk in that I was about to return to the UK having gained three things; 1) a nice tan, 2) approximately half a stone in weight and 3) the knowledge that the only way I will ever make it to Wimbledon is as a spectator. See you in the queue in June…..
