If you like craft beer then you really need to visit Howling Hops’ Tank Bar in Hackney Wick. This is where their entire range of beer is brewed and, more to the point, where you can drink it straight from the tank. As such, The Tank Bar is the first of its kind in the UK. You’ll find 10 serving tanks lined up behind the bar, each with a 1,100 litre capacity. We tried everything from the descriptively named Tropical Deluxe Pale Ale at 3.8 ABV to the gobsmacking Single Batch Dry Hopped Sour IPA at 7.2 ABV. But our recommendation is the light and perfectly balanced Das Koolsch lager. Combine lashings of the former with a fantastic Frankfurter burger and your taste buds will love you forever.
As if that wasn’t enough, now Howling Hops really has something to shout about – launching their 500th brew on 11 January. It’s called BATCH 500 – NEDIPA 8.5%. A murky fruit bomb heavily dry hopped with Ekuanot, Citra and Amarillo. If you can’t make it to The Tank Bar, you can also get hold of it at The Cock Tavern in Hackney.
Launch? Friday night, 11 January – beer distributed week commencing 14 January
