Here at BEAST, we love people who are responding to the reality that we all now wear several work hats, and lead fluid, multi-stranded lives. So we can’t wait to visit Benk + Bo, a new multi-functional work and relaxation space in Spitalfields. The three-storey brutalist building houses good value shared workspaces, rooms available for hire, yoga studio, facilities for events and shoots, an in-house bakery and a café.
The brains behind the project are Antony Burger, formerly a fashion producer for ASOS, who has a lifelong passion for baked goods. And Mariell Lind Hansen, a freelance architecture and interiors photographer. The community and DIY ethos of the rural Norwegian island that was her childhood home inspired her to develop Benk + Bo. Both are hands-on when it comes to day-to-day running of the space, and want it to have a relaxed and communal feel.
Full membership, which provides access to all the facilities, yoga classes and a café discount, is £190 per month, while part-time membership is £55 per month. A variety of yoga classes are available, with drop-ins priced at £12, or a bargain £20 for five classes. Or just head for the café and lounge, where the menu offers a range of vegetarian and vegan options for breakfast, lunch and takeaway.
