After a group of black women were racially discriminated against and refused entry to a London nightclub, NIGHTCLUBBING was conceived. Inspired by the timeless persona of Grace Jones, NIGHTCLUBBING imagines a different, hopeful future for women of colour, where being part of a minority doesn’t count against you and where groups come together to challenge oppressive systems of power. Adopting an intersectional approach to feminism, the performance channels Afrofuturism, a cultural aesthetic that combines elements of science fiction, magical realism and African history (think Black Panther).
