The Salamander Devours its Tail Twice
What does being human mean to you? If that’s too profound a question to answer, perhaps we should let 26 established and emerging artists respond instead. The Salamander Devours its Tail Twice, presented by Londonewcastle, is a group of artists exploring this very theme, with works spanning sculpture, installation, performance, video, photography, painting and print. The show’s title is taken from a passage in Fahrenheit 451, if you were wondering, and it refers to the ‘conceived annihilation of a cultural system’. This formed the criteria for selecting the artists to participate in the exhibition. They were chosen for their curiosity and understanding of the world through their sensed experiences, occupying the space between self-understanding and cultural expectation.
