If you go down to the forest this week you’re sure of a big surprise. To mark its announcement as the first ever Mayor’s London Borough of Culture, Waltham Forest is hosting Welcome to the Forest, the biggest party the area has ever seen. Responding to the year’s themes of Radicals, Makers and Fellowship, this unique event is celebrating the past, present and future of Waltham Forest. Artists Greenaway & Greenaway will transform the town hall into an audio-visual, site-specific film, Into The Forest, telling the story of the borough from the lens of its diverse communities. Forest Road will become a neon-lit carnival with the help of the legendary Gods Own Junkyard, and a lighting installation will be choreographed to the sounds of over 1000 participants from local schools and choirs. Everyone is welcome to the forest for this free-to-attend event.
When? Friday 11 – Saturday 13 January
