Island Poké, Shoreditch

Island Poké – Great Eastern Street

It’s not everyday you find yourself sat on a wooden swing watching the crowds of Shoreditch drift by. Island Poké’s sixth branch has recently opened, offering Shoreditch a taste of Hawaii it never knew it was craving says Beast’s Lara Mills

Described by the delightful team as Hawaii’s take on sushi – Island Poké mixes the staples of sushi with the limitless choice of a Deli for an innovative and healthy bowl which is as fashionable as it is flavoursome. Whether you build a bowl or snap up a house special, the vast variety of fresh ingredients will make you think twice about picking up that meal deal or settling for that bottom of the handbag sandwich. Once you’ve picked a base of sushi rice, brown rice, salad or slaw, the decision making really starts; do you go for the raw tuna, salmon, beetroot nuggets or (thanks to the tie up with BBQ boys pitt cue) smoked caramel chicken? Next, you can really go overboard. With free rein of toppings including kimchi, edamame, avocado, macadamia nuts, mango, pineapple, shredded seaweed and charred sweetcorn, Island Poké concocts the perfectly bespoké blend of sweet, salt and spice sensations. Why not do what we did and up the ante with squeeze-your-own spicy or wasabi mayo, sriracha sauce or soy. With a few seats inside the Great Eastern street branch, Island Poké secures its place amongst the highflyers of Shoreditch lunchtime cuisine; offering customers a perfect place for a pit stop meal or a vibrant on the go option to grab between meetings.

In terms of health, taste and generosity Island Poké cannot be faulted – extra points for service and  genuinely interesting vegetarian and vegan choices that don’t appear as an afterthought!
