Hidden Voices: PROCESSIONS in the City

Celebrating the lives and contributions of the women of Aldgate, a light and sound installation is coming to Aldgate Square. Arts charity Artichoke will be returning to London on Saturday 20th October with ‘Hidden Voices: PROCESSIONS in the City’, following the success of their mass participation artwork which celebrated the centenary of women’s suffrage in the UK.

Hidden Voices will bring the newly opened Aldgate Square to life with a sound and light installation celebrating the voices and stories of Aldgate women in the century since the first British women were granted the right to vote with the Representation of the People’s Act.

Ten banners created by women from across the UK for the initial PROCESSIONS exhibitions will also be on display, exhibited in St Botolph’s Church from 16th-19th October and from 3pm on Saturday 20th. The banners were created by local community groups to reflect those used by the suffragettes and suffragists during their campaign for equality.

Where: Aldgate Square, London, EC3N 1AF
When: Saturday 20th October
Banners exhibition: from 10am
